... in space!
Time for another tea video - this one is from space where astronauts take tea with toast and honey, using chopsticks.
I think I prefer the gravi-tea here on earth, where we can hold that nice warm cup in our hands and sip our tea!

Today's peek at herbs used in Steeped's new wellness teas examines borage. This is another herb that has a long history and lots of healing properties.
Fevers can be alleviated using the borage based herbal remedies and herbal medicine makes extensive use of the borage in this respect as it possesses a calming and cooling effect on the body, which can rapidly decrease elevated body temperatures. Convalescing and recovering patients in many parts of Europe, have been traditionally treated using the herbal borage tea, this is drunk as a strengthening tonic for patients to regain their strength and boost their chances of recovery from disease or weakness. Different disorders have also been treated using the borage. It is suggested that individuals suffering from high blood pressure can benefit from taking herbal remedies made from the borage. Borage based herbal remedies are also excellent for the treatment of individuals suffering from nervous disorders such as excessive apprehension or persistent worry including mild to long term depression. The detoxification of the body can also be accomplished by the herbal remedies made using the borage. In general, borage is a cleansing herb with cooling effects on the whole body, and because of this it may be used for the treatment of any disorder connected to congestion and excessive heat in the body of an individual. Perspiration in the body is also increased by the borage herb and the plant is known to have a very strong and distinct diuretic action in the body, it can accelerate the excretion of toxins in the body, through the pores on the skin and via the urine due to its diuretic property. Different kinds of skin problems, including all kinds of boils and bodily rashes can also be treated using the herbal tea made from the borage, the borage plant is also an excellent remedy for the treatment of arthritis and rheumatism in patients afflicted by these physical disorders, the borage is also excellent as a remedial measure during the onset of various infections and is an excellent herbal agent capable of quickly bringing down a fever affecting a person. Children specific eruptive diseases and disorders can also be treated using the herbal remedies made from the borage, these can be diseases such as measles and chickenpox, the remedy made from the borage is also used in the treatment of feverish colds, different coughs and the common flu in children. The respiratory system benefits from remedies of the borage, as the herb has a decongestant and expectorant property, it is therefore used in the effective treatment of conditions such as catarrh, it is used extensively in the treatment of sore throats and for the treatment of all types of infections in the chest region of the body. Irritations in the throat and the chest can be soothed and alleviated by the abundant mucilage present in the borage, this high mucilage content also enables the soothing of sores on the skin of affected patients. The borage also performs similar and very effective alleviating actions in the digestive system as well as the urinary system, for this reason, remedies based on the borage are very useful for the treatment of disorders such as persistent gastritis and problems such as the irritable bowel syndrome affecting patients. Milk production in nursing mothers is said to be promoted by consuming the leaves and seeds of the borage. As an herbal heart tonic, the borage has a long and ancient reputation and was and is still used by many herbalists in this role. The herbal remedies made from the borage are said to be capable of soothing and reducing palpitations in the cardiac muscles and are attributed with a property of revitalizing the entire system in persons under convalescence, at the same time, the borage based herbal remedies are also used in the treatment of physical and emotional exhaustion in different individuals. As has already been mentioned, the herb is attributed with endowing courage and confidence in a person, the relaxing and soothing effect of the borage helps in quick relief from grief and sadness, for this reason it is used in the treatment of long term depression affecting many people. The adrenal glands are also said to be stimulated by the borage, and the herbal remedy is valued as it is said to effectively counter the effects of steroids and other substances in the body, it is believed to encourage the adrenal production of steroid hormones and is used as a helpful herb when weaning a person off steroid therapy - it thus has a natural hormonal stimulatory role in the body of the affected person. During the period of menopause in women, estrogen production is taken over by the adrenal glands and the borage is very effective and useful in the stimulation of this gland at this crucial juncture. The same properties possessed by the leaves are also induced by the gamma linoleic acid rich borage seeds.

'Loose tea' turns profitable
Meredith Macleod A Hamilton couple never imagined that a trip to Nova Scotia to heal their broken hearts would wind up opening the door to their dream business. The Jahshans headed off to the quaint coastline town. They were mesmerized at the variety of tea there, the aromas. Tonia filled up the car with tea. "I knew I had to get the word out about loose tea." Tonia was already formulating a business plan. Steeped Tea Inc. was born. Tonia, 36, came home, started calling tea importers, drew up a logo and began printing catalogues from her home computer. Even Hatem, 35, who owned two Subway franchises and was doing an MBA part-time, didn't know what she was up to. It was just the diversion Tonia needed after recently miscarrying the couple's first child. With an extensive background in sales, including experience selling candles through direct home parties, Tonia knew the tea business was hot. Her research told her that tea is the second-most consumed beverage worldwide behind water. It's a foundation in many cultures. Plus, the extensive health benefits of green, white and black tea were becoming known in the general public. Tonia started sampling teas from around the world. She decided to sell through home parties. Who doesn't like a good tea party, after all? "Going to someone's home is a really personal experience," Tonia said. "Drinking tea is all about socializing." She figured it would be five years of doing it on her own before she would be able to hire consultants to host parties on commission. But it was less than a year of being run off her feet before Tonia hired her first salesperson. Now Steeped has 100 agents (all women) and expects to have 200 by the end of the year. The new five-year plan is to have 5,000. Their top commissioned sales agent earned $34,000 last year selling tea part-time. Steeped sales totalled about $244,000 in 2008, up 300 per cent from the year before. "There is a good living to be made in tea," Tonia said. She's glad to be able to offer something to women looking to supplement their household income. "Plus, no one's going to stop buying tea in a recession. It's an affordable luxury." Consultants are signing up from across Canada. There is no initial investment beyond hosting a party to earn their sales kit. Steeped pays commissions starting at 25 per cent and doesn't impose sales targets. "We wanted to make it as lucrative as possible for the consultants," Hatem said. "They are literally our partners." That means you won't find Steeped teas in stores and can't buy it through the company's website, steepedtea.com. The Jahshans have invested heavily in an aggressive publicity and marketing plan that has paid off with media attention from across the country and a slick website and catalogue. They say the combination of her sales prowess and live-wire personality and his ability to crunch numbers and think analytically is laying a strong foundation for the business. They have already sold one of their Subway franchises and will likely sell the other down the road. They can then devote all their time to Steeped and their 14-month-old daughter Layla. The tea, about 60 flavours in all, moves in and out quickly. "It's always really fresh because we can't keep it on the shelves," Tonia laughs. "All this tea you see here will be gone in a few days." The most popular sellers are the Earl Grey de la Creme that started it all, Creme Carmello rooibos tea, Cinnamon Stick green tea. "This really feels like what I'm meant to do," Tonia said. "I can't imagine doing anything else."
The Hamilton Spectator
(Apr 20, 2009) Tonia and Hatem Jahshan were sipping tea in a Halifax bed and breakfast in the summer of 2006. They had never tasted anything like it. Tonia asked the proprietor what kind of tea bags he was serving. He told her it was loose tea, Earl Grey de la Creme. He'd bought it at a tiny tea shop in Mahone Bay.

Hanami (花見 , lit. "flower viewing") is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the beauty of flowers, "flower" in this case almost always meaning cherry blossoms (桜 or 櫻 ,sakura), or ume blossoms (梅 ,ume). From mid January to early May, sakura bloom all over Japan. The blossom forecast (桜前線 ,sakurazensen?, lit. cherry blossom front) is
announced each year by the weather bureau, and is watched carefully by those planning hanami as the blossoms only last a week or two. In modern-day Japan, hanami mostly consists of having an outdoor party beneath the sakura during daytime or at night.
It won't be too long before we're seeing cherry trees blossom here in Ontario, but in the meantime. And why not brew a pot of Cherry Rose Sencha and enjoy these photos!
